Generate in daylight
The solar array powers the property and recharges storage when conditions allow. Winter and extended cloudy periods drive the design.
Solar, batteries and generator support for a home without a mains electricity connection. We assess Sigenergy-based systems around winter conditions, daily demand and the loads you need to run.

The solar array powers the property and recharges storage when conditions allow. Winter and extended cloudy periods drive the design.
Batteries supply energy between solar periods. Their usable capacity and the inverter’s power must suit different jobs.
A suitable generator can cover poor-solar periods and recharge storage through the supported system. Fuel, servicing and noise belong in the plan.
Benefits can include supplying a remote property where a grid connection is impractical, greater control over your energy supply, and using solar for much of everyday operation. Compare full ownership costs with any available grid-connection option.
We can assess a Sigenergy-based full off-grid solution using compatible SigenStor controllers and battery modules, a selected Sigen Energy Gateway, and generator support. Your proposal confirms the permanent off-grid configuration and manufacturer support for the exact combination.
Gateway ⇢ generator: separate compatible start / stop control
Energy-flow concept, not an electrical wiring drawing. Actual topology, protection and control depend on the selected equipment.
Sigenergy’s Gateway Home manual explicitly describes generator operation for long-term off-grid applications. The Australian Gateway range also describes generator connection and compatible two-wire starting. These capabilities need an engineered system and commissioning; selecting a backup setting is not a complete off-grid design.
The electrician connects the generator through the selected Gateway’s supported generator input and the required switching and protection. The permitted arrangement is model specific.
Where supported, a separate two-wire control connection lets the Gateway request generator operation. The generator must support the selected control method.
Battery charge thresholds, generator limits and operating windows are configured for the system. Manual operation may be possible; automatic behaviour is verified at handover.
The HomeMax generator application note calls its generator connection a SMART-PORT. That name and its wiring diagram must not be assumed to apply to every current Australian Gateway. An external automatic transfer switch is used only where the final design requires it.
We check generator capacity, starting loads, fuel supply, access, exhaust location, maintenance and power quality. Never connect a generator by back-feeding an ordinary power outlet.
| Design question | What we assess |
|---|---|
| Energy across seasons | Daily kWh, winter heating, visitors and the time appliances run. |
| Power and starting loads | Simultaneous loads, pumps, motors, cooking and heating. |
| Poor-solar resilience | Storage autonomy, expected generator use and acceptable load reduction. |
| Site and equipment | Roof or ground-array options, cable distances, battery environment and access. |
| Ongoing ownership | Fuel, servicing, monitoring, replacement planning and user handover. SigenStor has Internet-connectivity and firmware conditions; plan the data connection for a remote site. |
